Impulsan el cultivo de la batata en el AMBA
Desde el INTA AMBA junto con el Programa Prohuerta (Ministerio de Desarrollo Social de la Nación / INTA) se incentiva e impulsa el cultivo de la batata en pequeños productores y huerteros del Área Metropolitana de Buenos Aires.
Esta actividad tiene dos objetivos, por un lado, y en primera instancia evaluar su comportamiento en huertas a partir de almácigos y plantines, y por el otro, impulsar que huerteros y pequeños productores familiares incorporen la batata dentro de sus cultivos, y de esta manera incentivar la diversificación productiva.
Tomás Del Compare, asistente del Programa Prohuerta (Ministerio de Desarrollo Social de la Nación / INTA) comentó: “la batata semilla la compramos en San Pedro y vamos a distribuirla a través de las agencias de extensión para que cada una realice almácigos y puedan producir plantines para distribuir en huertas comunitarias y familiares”.
Al mismo tiempo, destacó que técnicos de las diferentes agencias participaron de capacitaciones para conocer más sobre las propiedades de la variedad Beauregard, que fue la que se adquirió, formas de manejo, cuidados y adaptabilidad. “Tanto en La Plata como otras agencias ya venían trabajo en este cultivo de batata y esa experiencia previa, que es muy buena, es la que nos motivó a querer replicarlo en todo el AMBA” -y agregó Del Compare– “vamos a realizar un almacigo en la Estación Experimental para poder tener plantines y distribuir en huertas comunitarias”.
Incorporarla en huertas comunitarias y de autoconsumo es clave ya que aporta a una dieta balanceada por tratarse de una fuente de nutrientes de energía, vitaminas y minerales junto con sus propiedades funcionales de prevención de enfermedades por su contenido de fibra y antioxidantes.
